Hey Guy's
Today I have some External Plugin's
Calvin's most used Plugin's
Good or Bad ?
Who of you Use's Plugin's ?
Have fun
Calvin said : he Knows a lot of Photographers That do not use Plugins, because
they want to create there Image's with photography and just Photoshop.
He said "To use a plugin is like cheating in a Game "
He is not up to 100% a fan of plugins but he use's them, and only use's them
upto to a serten Level and with serten Opacity, from his point of view is it not good
to but a filter or Plugin with 100% on your Picture it will not help you, and
make u better and to develop your own Picture Style.
But it is also a Very usefull tool When I am doing some Commerical Work it helps me
to be quicker with my work and When I don't really have the time to play with the Image.
He uses some plugins that I want to show you at the end of the Blog.
To 90% he uses these plugins and filter and at the end of his Post Production, just
to get that extra touch and to bring in the magic touch.
Calvin Created this Picture in less then 2 min with diffrent Plugins
he used HDREfexpro, Knoll light factory , Topaz Simplify, ok don't
Worry to much about the Picture or how it look's like, what count's for calvin is that
with Photoshop he would not get it so quickly done or maybe not even make it.
Well the disadvantage of these Plugin's they don't work for every Image
and lot of photographers think that they can only create a certen look throw
these Plugins which is so wrong, That could be the same statement like ''
uhh that's why his pictures look so good, because he has than camera ''
no wonder he has so good Images.
I think you know what I mean. so Here are the Plugins
Niksoftware ( most of the time using ColorEfexPro 3.0 )
Topaz ( mostly using details and simplify)
Imagenomic ( Portraiture for quick skin retouching )
Red Giant Software ( Magic bullet look and Knoll Light Factory )
All of these Plugins has it's advantages Calvin could not say which one
the best is, but everyone is quit use full to have. Most of the time he uses The
ColorEfexPro 3.0 Because it has big variety on different Looks, and honestly
he could not live without these Plugins anymore because he is just quicker
with his work and they bring that little extra to his Images.
So let me know what you guy's think about these Plugins.
Thanks guy's
Cheers Manni
Hi
I love this, Imagenomic ( Portraiture for quick skin retouching ) in combination with Nik Silver FX (Push Structure Preset).
The Red Giant Software ( Magic bullet look ) looks interesting!
Thanks for the post.
Cheers Joe
Niksoftware has an excellent skin retouching plugin too for those fats edits. I use it on a lower opacity and bring the details back with a soft hipass layer.
Im glad you have activated this blog Calvin, because I cant read german!
Brodie.
I use plug-ins! Wow, It sounded like a confession on an AA meeting… “Hi, my name is Eduardo and I use plug-ins in some of my works… I’ve been using it for 3 years…”
But the truth is I like to do most of the work myself! The plug-in sometimes is a tool to help you achieve a result without spending a lot of time in either Lightroom or Photoshop! And it is a useful tool… We just have to remind ourselves of 2 things:
1. Not all plug-ins in the world will help if you don’t take a good picture!
2. Use them to help in your style and don’t let them become your style!
Thanks for the post and it is really good to see this place alive again!
I use Topaz Adjust, Imagenomic noiseware, and portraiture. Photomatix for HDR. I also use various actions for color toning and B&W. I like Alien Skin exposure but haven’t wanted to spend the money. Matt Kloskowski uses the Nik colorefx too. I might have to try it. I say use what works. Like Calvin said, it’s a tool, and just like owning a power saw doesn’t make you a great carpenter – plugins won’t make you a great photographer or photoshop guru.
I think OnOne Phototools is way better than Nik ColorEFX for an all in one workhorse. The skin retouching and magic eye are amazing and it has so many effects it unreal. I highly recommend trying the demo Calvin because I follow everything you do and I know you’d use it so much. I use Topaz, LucisArt, Photomatix, Nik Silver EFX for all B&W (its the best). Thanks Calvin for the heads up on the other plugins. I am going to check them out.
Calvin,
I’m glad you mentioned LucisArt. I’ve loved their plugins for a long while and I noticed them in your plugins folder during one for your tutorials. I feel like they really add a lot to the picture when used in the right way. How often do you use them? Sometimes I feel like its the missing secret ingredient in some of your images. I’ve never seen you mention it in any of your tutorials and i’ve followed just about every thing you’ve put out there. I’ve even translated german via google just to watch your tutorials in german.
I have used a number of these plugins in the latter years as well. Each week goes by though where I am needing these plugins less and less, the more you spend time studying how these plugins work, you won’t need them. I still use Nik Software, and Imagenomic software for a lot of my work. Also if your not careful, a bunch of plugins like to crash photoshop, OnOne Photo Tools is a great example.
I’ve been using Phototools for about a year now and I’ve never had a problem. I’m on PC.
